As part of the global 16 Days of Activism campaign, the Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia is hosting two powerful workshops from Our Watch, aimed at ending gender-based violence and advancing gender equality. The workshops will run on Tuesday the 3rd December.
Session 1: Changing the Picture
Delivered by Toni Hawkins, this workshop will help participants understand:
• What are the drivers of domestic family and sexual violence (DFSV) against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are.
• Why there is a focus on prevention work for DFSV against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and the complexities that relate to this.
• The insidious nature of colonisation and its impact on all levels of society; and how to prevent the ongoing impacts of colonisation within their circle of influence.
• The essential actions that are needed to prevent violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
Session2: Men in Focus
Led by Cameron Farshid McDonald, this session will cover:
• The prevalence and impacts of men’s violence against women
• The link between gender inequality, socially dominant forms of masculinity and men’s violence against women
• What is a primary prevention approach to ending men’s violence against women, guiding principles and essential actions
• How to respond to backlash and resistance and develop effective and engaging messaging
Tickets are $20 per session (morning/afternoon tea provided).
