As part of the Larapinta Trek challenge, you will stand on ancient escarpments and gaze out upon the ochre-coloured landscapes of Central Australia.
You will follow Aboriginal Dreaming tracks and trek beside one of the world’s oldest river systems.
By day, you will experience the diversity of desert habitats and learn the unique history of Australia’s Aboriginal Peoples. At night, you will fall asleep to the sounds of native wildlife under a blanket of stars.
Best of all, your adventure is empowering community driven suicide prevention and helping Suicide Prevention Australia halve suicides in the next decade.
In Australia, more than 65,000 people attempt to take their own life every year. Today, 7 people will die by suicide. Sadly it is highly likely that someone you know has been touched by suicide.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to represent some of the highest rates of suicide anywhere in the world.
By taking part in Hike 2 Halve you will be supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members working in suicide prevention to attend the National Suicide Prevention Conference in 2016, to share their valuable knowledge and experience.
This will help strengthen community models for suicide prevention in the future, leading to fewer lives lost.
